10 Wrestling Books You Must Read Before You Die

5. Eric Bischoff: Controversy Creates Cash

It's easy to assume that all WWE-published books have a certain spin on them. Truthfully, they do, because they're under the microscope of Vince McMahon's rule. In fairness, that doesn't mean that they don't make for interesting reads. As aformentioned in an earlier entry, Hulk Hogan's 2002 WWE book attempted to re-write history in a sense. That was a mistake, the book suffered for it. Eric Bischoff's doesn't take the same tact, at least not in parts. There are moments when Bischoff sucks up to his then-current employer, but he's also brazen about what he achieved as the head honcho in WCW. His time in charge of the only major promotion which has managed to challenge the McMahon monopoly is the main hook of Controversy Creates Cash. Whilst it'd be interesting to read about the man's plans for TNA during his time there, this book was released long before that. It's also a WWE book, which would probably render any idea of talking about TNA impossible. Thus, WCW and WWE dominate, and rightfully so. Bischoff is an interesting person, because he's someone who was smart enough to see the industry for what it is, a business. Then, he became tangled in a web of nonsense which ultimately led to the downfall of something he had built.
