Pictured above is a happy, enthusiastic Jim Ross rehearsing some lines before his big WWF debut at WrestleMania IX. Behind the curtain at Caesars Palace, some top talent were concerned by the promotion's new lead announcer. Specifically, The Undertaker and Randy Savage were far from happy.

On a 'Something To Wrestle With' deep dive on JR's WWE career, Bruce Prichard said 'Taker and Savage were worried that Jim's fascination with real-life sports would undermine their characters. They didn't want the new play-by-play man to bring up their college careers. Backstage, The Undertaker had strong words to Bruce.

"If he brings up my basketball career, I'll f*cking kill him."

Savage felt the same about his days playing baseball before becoming a pro wrestler. Neither liked the thought that their gimmicks would be affected due to Ross's need to legitimise workers by listing their sporty accolades.
