Before winning the Raw Tag Titles with good pal Zack Ryder on WrestleMania's pre-show, Curt Hawkins was on one one hell of a losing streak. His win-loss record stood at 0-269 and stretched back a couple of years. According to Hawkins in an interview with Newsday, the whole thing came about by accident.

One fan's attention to detail is to thank for WWE turning hapless jobber into sympathetic success story.

Back when he was 0-100, Curt read an article online that pointed out his landmark losing run. Immediately, he started to do some digging himself and found out that the stat was correct. After that, Hawkins took the news to WWE management and asked if he could turn such hopelessness into a story that might give him something to do a TV tapings.

Creative agreed, and that's when announcers started charting each of Hawkins' defeats whenever he appeared on programming. If he hadn't stumbled upon that article, then he wouldn't have had the gimmick.
