10 Wrestling Facts We Didn't Know Last Week (Dec 7)

1. Sabu Almost Feuded With Lex Luger In 1993

Sabu Lex Luger

Homicidal Maniac vs. All-American Hero.

Had Bruce Prichard got his wish in 1993 and convinced Sabu to ink a WWF contract, then that's the kind of match we could've been watching in late-'93 into early-'94. Sadly for Bruce, Sabu's uncle (The Original Sheik) warned him against signing the contract, and the future ECW risk-taker returned to his regular schedule in FMV.

The promotion were impressed by Sabu when he worked a few dark matches shortly before the 1993 Survivor Series. On his podcast, Prichard admitted that tentative storylines were drawn up that'd see Sabu act as a "foreign menace" against the apple pie-loving Lex. In other words, Sabu would have been Luger's next rival after Yokozuna.

It wasn't to be. Bruce did make sure to note that the WWF wanted to sign Sabu years before he was covered in scars, became known for putting his body through tables every night and used barbed wire in his matches. They liked his look and thought he'd be ideal to put sympathy on Lex.
