Originally, the event was cited for the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, a venue in which the company hoped to draw in excess of 100,000 people. In the end, just over 16,000 fans crammed into the arena for 'Mania VII. The then-WWF later told of death threats towards Sgt. Slaughter, one of the men in the main event opposite Hulk Hogan. The defending champion, Slaughter had apparently been festooned with threats over his life due to a recent heel turn. Therefore, the company chose to move the host venue of the event.
