For months before it eventually happened, The Undertaker's portly ex-manager Paul Bearer warned his former charge that Kane was coming to the WWF. Said to be 'Taker's brother, this mystical new character seemed like an attempt to piggy-back on the success of the 'Deadman' and nothing more.

Besides, The Undertaker had to concern himself with the first ever Hell In A Cell match at In Your House: Badd Blood in October, 1997. Opposing Shawn Michaels in a #1 Contenders affair seemed enough for Undertaker, so few were even thinking of Kane when the pay-per-view began.

Debuting as the bout was in full flow, the frightening Kane ripped the door to the cell clean off and thumped his storyline sibling with a Tombstone Piledriver that enabled Michaels to pick up the victory.

Still one of the most shocking debuts in WWF/WWE history, the arrival of Kane also kick-started a fresh chapter in The Undertaker's career and helped motor him through the rest of the 1990's. Meanwhile, a new character carved his own legacy due to association with one of the promotion's biggest acts, and nobody saw it coming.
