10 WWE Promos For Matches That Never Happened

8. "Stone Cold" Steve Austin vs. Chyna (SummerSlam 1999) - WWF Title

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8hZyRZYWELo For one week in the buildup to the three-way dance between Steve Austin, Triple H and Mankind at Summerslam 1999, Austin was actually slated to wrestle Chyna for the WWE Championship. Attitude Era booking was an amazing thing to consider. The entire WWE roster was white hot at the time, as well, if you wanted to suggest say, D'Lo Brown fighting for the championship, there was a logical way to make that happen as everyone from "Match 1" to the main event was over. Chyna being inserted into the role allowed heat to be placed on Triple H (for whom Chyna was a valet) so that Mick Foley could be inserted into the match in Chyna's spot. Earlier in 1999 Chyna had qualified for the King of the Ring Tournament, and by October had won the Intercontinental Championship over Jeff Jarrett in the famed "Good Housekeeping" match. Chyna V Austin The inclusion of Chyna for one week in the booking of Summerslam thus was a deft sleight-of-hand that legitimized her crossover into the male-driven title picture.
