They make a good living, they are probably fans of the business and they must enjoy it. It's definitely a sacrifice to work on the road for 250 days of the year, though. No doubt about that. I know that in some cases some of the refs do even more than just referee. Charles Robinson is on the ring crew, which likely means benefits as well such as having rooms paid for and maybe a car also. The more work you put in, the more money you make. That's how every job should be, really. Some of the referees in NXT right now like Drake Wuertz and Danilo Anfibio are actually former wrestlers, so they must love the business a lot to still be in it. As a referee, you won't get paid as much, but you're also not taking bumps that often and hurting your body. In sports, they say that the best refs are the ones you never notice making the mistakes. The same can be said about WWE refs as well.
