It hardly needs saying why Godfather, a "pimp" who was accompanied to the ring by a group of scantily-clad women who he referred to as his "hos", would frighten WWE heads in 2017.

Apart from the concern that his gimmick would be making light of the sex industry's dangerous and unsafe working conditions, there's also the casual sexism associated with women being used, essentially, as naught more than props.

Incredibly, WWE has continued to use Godfather for the occasional guest spot - and even went so far as to induct him into its Hall of Fame last year - without attracting too much in the way of controversy.

But what that tells us is that outmoded tradition always seems somehow less threatening through the prism of nostalgia. Bottom line: this could never be a central part of today's product.
