Because who cares what the fans want anyway?

Think back to some of the WWE Title matches you were desperate to see, like Stone Cold vs. The Rock from WrestleMania X-Seven or even the 'Ultimate Challenge' from 'Mania VI between Hulk Hogan and The Ultimate Warrior. Title bouts should be the pinnacle of any card they're featured on. The key word there is should, but that's not always the case.

Sometimes, WWE present matches nobody wanted in the first place. Maybe a performer not involved was on a hot streak at the time and fans wanted to see them in that spot, or perhaps the match just felt totally random and out of place. If you need a modern example, then Shinsuke Nakamura's bland title shot against Jinder Mahal at SummerSlam 2017 fits the bill.

Mere months earlier at Money in the Bank, it looked like WWE were setting the scene for Nakamura vs. AJ Styles. That was scrapped (or at least put on the back burner) in favour of a short build towards the Japanese star's crack at Jinder.

Who cares what the fans want to see, eh?
