10 WWE WrestleMania Matches That Had To Follow Something Infamously Terrible

2. Chris Jericho Vs. The Legends Following The Women's Battle Royal (WrestleMania XXV)

This f*cking Battle Royal and the work Chris Jericho and Ricky Steamboat gamely did to try and recover the entire Houston crowd after the fact are the respective lows and highs of an incredibly disappointing edition of the 'Show Of Shows'.

Miss WrestleMania would be the last woman standing, and as per all-female battle royals at the time, eliminations could occur simply by falling out of the ring. Or in this case, before ring announcer Justin Roberts had finished explaining the rules. The likes of Maryse, Torrie Wilson, Victoria, Molly Holly and others were dumped out without fanfare, and commentator Michael Cole called Gail Kim ‘one of the Bella Twins’ when he actually remembered to call the match.

Ill-conceived and executed, the match degenerated into a patronising mess of blown spots and mistimed tumbles before Satina Marella won the whole thing. Such was the case for Jericho's disasterpiece with Roddy Piper, Jimmy Snuka and Ricky Steamboat until only the latter remained. Then, things got wonderful.

'The Dragon' rolled back the years, going high with dives and deep with armdrags, securing nearfalls as if it were Ric Flair himself in the ring rather than on the arena floor playing proud cheerleader. 'Y2J' got the win in the end but both were victors, so much so that the company went with an enjoyable singles match payoff to the mini-feud at Backlash the following month.
