2020 has been a thoroughly strange year for professional wrestling - as it has for the entire world. A lack of audience and the distinct absence of certain performers have made the year seem like a slightly barren wasteland. Despite the situation, WWE has powered through, and we've still been able to get our fix of sports entertainment to some extent.

It's easy to look past this entire year and use forethought to get excited about what the next year will bring. If there is one thing that 2020 has done exceptionally well, it's setting up some future stars to have absolute banner years in 2021, and in the coming months, fans will be able to see this come to fruition.

The world of wrestling may have been on hold for a little bit, but the market is still absolutely chock full of exceptional talent, and the following superstars have specifically displayed evidence throughout 2020 of the potential that they have coming their way.

Some are up and coming performers and others are decorated stars, but all are heading towards the absolute best years of their career as the new year approaches.

10. Pete Dunne

Pete Dunne is a performer who we certainly have not seen a lot of in the last year, and most of that comes down to the pandemic. Before the restrictions began, Dunne was NXT tag champion with Matt Riddle and was having a great time in this odd pairing.

However, recent events suggest that Dunne is back and ready to make an impact. His position in NXT has been impressive, but if his indy and NXT UK days reveal anything, it's that Dunne is a natural born heel. Therefore his recent return to NXT TV and heel alignment with Danny Burch and Oney Lorcan are excellent indicators of the year he will have.

Now part of Pat McAfee's Kings of NXT stable, he seems destined to have an impactful time feuding with the Undisputed Era, in a team that feels reminiscent of his Progress days with British Strong Style.

He is in fantastic looking shape, and his return was full of energy and intensity. His NXT work in the coming year will undoubtedly be the best of his career.
