Fastlane 2016 is the last pay-per-view before WrestleMania. It looks to have what should be a good main event, at least in terms of in-ring quality. But just because Brock Lesnar versus Roman Reigns versus Dean Ambrose will be a 'good match', it doesn't necessarily mean it should be happening. Indeed, the main event has several big problems, while the rest of the card is reading like a Sunday Night Raw line-up. Fans don't need to wait until next Monday morning to dissect Fastlane's mistakes, with the key errors having already been made and the company very much booked into a corner. Which brings about the very first point about Fastlane's shortcomings, notably its predictability.
11. Obvious Results
Fastlane is in an awkward position, lodged in between Royal Rumble and WrestleMania. A mistake WWE have already made is not offering any element of mystery, as having watched Royal Rumble, it is pretty obvious what WrestleMania's big matches are going to be. With no mystery and with the direction for 'Mania already patently obvious, what's the point in watching Fastlane? Creative have failed to keep it interesting. Fastlane is an unnecessary bridge to cross. WrestleMania matches like Reigns versus Triple H, Bray Wyatt versus Brock Lesnar, and Charlotte versus Sasha Banks have already been made clear. The Rumble has already done Fastlane's job for it. As a result of the obvious booking processes, Fastlane's big matches are easily predictable. The February shows have never done well commercially based upon this problem. It is just a filler show before WrestleMania and WWE have once again fell into the trap of making the February show uninspiring and predictable.
