11 Famous Wrestling "Holy Grounds" That Still Stand

10. Arena Mexico

AJ MSG
CMLL

This building is called the "Cathedral of Lucha Libre." You can't get much holier than that...well, unless you're not Catholic. But seeing as how we're talking about Mexico, most people who go there are Catholic, so... wait, where were we going with this?

Anyway, opening in 1956, Arena Mexico has been used ever since by CMLL to host their most important events. Holding events at least twice a week for their Tuesday and Friday shows, the arena also hosts the show's major cards and PPVs.

From lucha legends such as Perro Aguayo and Atlantis to modern day dynamos like Mistico, La Sombra, and Dragon Lee, almost all of lucha libre's greatest technicos and rudos have stepped foot inside the hallowed halls of Arena Mexico. As CMLL has remained steady as the world's oldest active wrestling promotion, so too has Arena Mexico stayed steady as a reliable and respected home of Mexican wrestling.
