Before he was "Hardcore," Bob Holly came into the WWF as a NASCAR driver under the name of Thurman "Sparky" Plugg. Fortunately, someone realized how silly that sounded, and he was soon rebranded as "Spark Plug" Bob Holly. Holly would, of course, move on to bigger and better gimmicks, but he wasn't just spinning his tires in the meantime. Partnering with the 1-2-3 Kid, the two would claim the WWF Tag Team Championships after defeating Bam Bam Bigelow and Tatanka in a tournament to claim the vacated belts. However, that reign proved to be very short-lived- one day, in fact- before The Smoking Gunns claimed the gold for themselves. He almost had an Intercontinental Championship win to add to his list of accolades, but during the Action Zone title match, champion Jeff Jarrett managed to get his foot on the ropes, leading to the title being vacated until a later rematch saw Double J pick up the win.
