For the fifth straight WrestleMania (if we're including Hogan vs. Yokozuna as the main of IX), one or more members of the main event failed to make it onto the following SummerSlam card. WrestleMania 13 was headlined by a WWF Championship match between then-champion Psycho Sid and The Undertaker, a match that the Deadman won after Bret Hart got involved.

Taker continued his run as champion all the way until SummerSlam, where that very same Hit Man defeated him for the title thanks to the inadvertent interference of guest referee Shawn Michaels. What was Psycho Sid doing on the SummerSlam 1997 card?

Absolutely nothing. Much like the aftermath of his WrestleMania VIII main event, Sid was no longer with the company, deciding to leave in order to rehab a serious neck injury. He wouldn't return to mainstream American wrestling until 1999, when he turned up in Extreme Championship Wrestling.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
