The Undertaker's appearances in World Wrestling Entertainment have grown less and less frequent over the years, as the Deadman has returned for a showcase match at WrestleMania and not much else. Despite being synonymous with matches at WrestleMania, Undertaker has only headlined three Manias - 13, XXIV and XXVI.

The last of these saw him retire Shawn Michaels, and whilst Taker was still active in the company for the rest of the year he wasn't on the SummerSlam card. Well, not officially anyway. The storyline reason was that someone had attacked him and put him into what was described as a vegetative state, with Rey Mysterio of all people facing the strongest accusations.

Undertaker's brother Kane would defeat Mysterio at SummerSlam 2010, and as he tried to throw Rey Rey into a casket he was shocked to find his formerly vegetative brother waiting inside. Kane was revealed as the attacker, and the two embarked on a feud that was surprisingly one-sided in favour of little brother.
