12 Match Star Ratings For AEW Revolution 2022

2. Sting, Darby Allin & Sammy Guevara Vs. Matt Hardy, Andrade & Isiah Kassidy - Tornado Trios Match

Jon Moxley
AEW

God, what a blast this was.

It was perfectly sequenced after three long, attritional singles matches. Tony Khan is the booker of the year already, and this match will have a lot to do with it. A lot of people thought this was a match too far on a loaded card; in reality, it was what a loaded card needed. It was shallow popcorn entertainment positioned at a time when the crowd needed to be seized by the throat and thrown into an atmosphere of exhilaration, anxiety and fun.

It was so great for what it was that it even made sense of the otherwise low-rent AHFO gimmick. The various underlings swarmed around the arena when the heels were in deep sh*t to assist with two stunt set-ups that otherwise would have dragged the all-action lunacy down.

Those two stunts were just absurd in the best way. Sammy Guevara destroyed Isiah Kassidy with a Spanish fly off an entrance tunnel and through a table, where Sting - Sting! - executed a balcony dive on Andrade through three tables. One outrageous spot, one magical spot, no laborious downtime.

Between the two demented stunts, Andrade el Idolo furthered his case as the umpteenth prospective TNT Champion on this stupidly deep roster. He worked phenomenally well with Darby Allin - Khan's award will be rescinded if he doesn't run that back as a singles match - and modified his deadlift one-armed powerbomb deal into the buckle.

Even Jose the Assistant took a crazy bump trapped in a trash can in a match that rendered the physical sensation of fatigue impossible.

Star Rating: ★★★★
