When Hideo Itami arrived in NXT in September 2014, he declared it was his destiny to become NXT champion. Well, it's been almost exactly three years since then and he has yet to hold the gold. At this point, he likely never well.

That's not a reflection on his talent, however, as it appeared he was primed to become champ at The Beast in the East live special WWE did in Japan in July 2015. Due to a shoulder injury that put him on the shelf for over a year, that never came to fruition. He got hurt again almost immediately upon his return in 2016, delaying his main roster call-up even further.

Although Itami's NXT stint has been much longer than most would have hoped, he has been killing it as a heel as of late in his feud with Kassius Ohno. If he won't win the NXT Championship, then promoting him to 205 Live to serve as Neville's heir apparent when he inevitably moves back up to the heavyweight division would be ideal.

The Cruiserweight division has been called "the kiss of death" in the past due to how it has pigeonholed talents such as Austin Aries, Akira Tozawa and Gentleman Jack Gallagher, but Itami would be swallowed up whole if he went to Raw or SmackDown Live right now. 205 Live would be the perfect platform to introduce Itami to the WWE Universe.
