Around the early 2000s, WWE started to realise that they had a star in the making in John Cena, and decided to push him to the moon. After winning his first Wrestlemania match at Wrestlemania 20 against Big Show for the United States Championship, he followed it up one year later by beating JBL for the WWE Championship. Appearing in the Wrestlemania main event for the first time, Cena was set to defend his belt against Triple H in a match that Hunter had won a tournament to compete in. Wrestlemania 22 holds the somewhat dubious honour of being one of the first places that John Cena really encountered a great deal of booing at. During his entrance (which a pre-fame CM Punk appeared in) fans in attendance started to rally against the super-pushed Superman that they were being presented with, but to no avail. Triple H lost the match by tapping to Cena's STFU submission maneuver, continuing Cena's emphatic rise to becoming the face of the company. Looking back at this match, it's easy to see why fans have recently rejected Roman Reigns so much. On a whole, the WWE Universe doesn't want another John Cena, and Reigns' own Wrestlemania main event was greeted by as volatile a reaction as Cena's here. Interestingly, Reigns was supposed to work with Triple H before he suffered a hernia in mid 2014, but it's probably safe to assume that Triple H would've lost that match too.
