If you only know Gail Kim from her numerous WWE runs, then you don’t really know Gail Kim. In fact, her time in WWE is arguably best remembered for a match she played no part in, a battle royal that she couldn’t care for and thus decided to immediately eliminate herself. It was one of the finest pieces of insubordination in modern WWE history. A few days later, Kim announced that she was done with the company.

If this is all you remember about Gail Kim then the time has come for reeducation. In TNA, Gail Kim was a trailblazer, the most important individual in the women’s wrestling revolution that went on to become such a vital aspect of today’s WWE. Kim was the inaugural TNA Knockouts Champion, and her series of title matches with Awesome Kong went a long way to changing the perception of women’s wrestling at a time when the form was all but dead.

Kim’s first TNA run was hugely influential but it was arguably topped by her second, a tenure that brought a further six Knockouts Championships and a place in the TNA Hall of Fame, the first female to be inducted. Hers is an influential and important career, one that amounts to much more than kissing Daniel Bryan and eliminating herself from the opportunity to face Kelly Kelly.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
