13 Wrestling Matches That Cost Wrestlers Their Custom Belts
1. 'The Fiend' Bray Wyatt’s Universal Championship
‘The Fiend’ Bray Wyatt won his first Universal Championship at Crown Jewel 2019 bathed in the sinister red light, which had fans leaning into their screens rather than sitting at the edge of their seats.
Fun House Bray used magic to turn the Universal Championship from Raw red to SmackDown blue. However, ‘The Fiend’s own custom championship was introduced on the 29 November 2019 edition of SmackDown. It was created by horror special effects genius Tom Savini and his team, who also made ‘The Fiend’ mask.
Wyatt’s championship win was a knee-jerk reaction to fan dissatisfaction after his and Seth Rollins’ Hell in a Cell clash ended in referee stoppage. However, ‘The Fiend’ didn’t need a championship run. Wyatt’s innovative vignettes alone were getting him over. Many Fans suspected a short reign, however, nobody expected ‘The Fiend’ to lose quite so spectacularly.
‘The Fiend’ Bray Wyatt (c) vs. Goldberg
Super ShowDown 2020
Goldberg squashed ‘The Fiend’ in just over three minutes. Admittedly few of Goldberg’s opponents have come back from four spears, however, everything else about the feud negated any signs of strength. If there was a time for Fun House Bray to make his in-ring debut, this was it.
