15 WWE Matches You Didn't Know Featured Landmark Firsts
6. The First Internet Meme Fan Sign At WrestleMania 17
This one is a little obscure, but its pretty interesting to see how the times were changing for not just WWE, but the world in general. The internet meme is now common place, and theres always a fan sign that makes a reference to one or more of these memes in relation to WWE or professional wrestling in general. Sometimes WWE will capitalize on the meme if its a big enough hit (Boo-Tista for example) but more often itll be ignored. At WrestleMania 17, one fan in particular held up a large pink sign that quoted the famous internet meme All your base are belong to us. It can be seen clearly during Undertakers match with Triple H. Theres nothing flashy about it, and most wrestling fans probably didnt give it a second notice. But considering that the sign was made in 2001, long before the meme boom that circulates all of social media; it foreshadowed the internets inevitable rise to the top of the mainstream mountain. Its not a historic professional wrestling first, but it is a first in regards to the direction that World Wrestling Entertainment would take in the years that followed.
