2 Ups & 5 Downs From AEW Rampage (Oct 20 - Results & Review)

Downs...

5. No Stakes & No Context

Mistico Rocky Romero
AEW

Right, this could be fairly controversial to some.

AEW presented Rocky Romero vs. Mistico as a huge deal, and a can't-miss-prospect. The truth? It was a non-title 'Best 2 Out Of 3 Falls' match that showcased something you can see in other wrestling companies. Bragging rights between non-AEW promotions surely isn't something that's critical to fans watching Rampage.

The idea that someone has to "do their homework" (a familiar line thrown out there when this point is raised) is boring now too. It's the promotion's job to make you care about a match/storyline and want to pay attention. If you have to watch hours of CMLL to get it, then they're doing a frankly sh*t job.

So, what happened after AEW told you Mistico's debut was must see? They cut away from his match-winning celebration within five seconds to show a recap of something that happened on Dynamite. It's so hard to invest when this is how things are produced.
