The most recent match on our list, but one entirely deserving of its lofty ranking, DIY vs. The Revival II was close to flawless. It pitted the two most exciting tag teams in modern wrestling against each other at the conclusion of a perfect rivalry, and after finishing as WWE’s 2016 Match of the Year, its excellence was undeniable.

DIY, the babyfaces, had been through the ringer in WWE. After wrestling each other in the Cruiserweight Classic then failing to beat The Revival at the first time of asking, it looked like they were set to split. Just when it seemed as though Tommaso Ciampa would turn on Johnny Gargano, however, they pulled it back together, rallied as a team, and rediscovered the magic that got them to NXT in the first place.

The match itself brought the classic southern tag team formula into the modern era, with Gargano playing a better Ricky Morton than Morton himself, and The Revival cutting the ring in half like men with twice their experience. The finish - with Dash Wilder and Scott Dawson literally grabbing each other’s hands to avoid tapping out - was one of the year’s most cathartic, and an excellent conclusion to DIY’s long story arc.
