14. King Kong Bundy's 8 Second Match

The Myth: King Kong Bundy defeated S.D. Jones in 9 seconds at WrestleMania I.

The Truth: First, let’s marvel at the fact that Special Delivery Jones made it onto the first WrestleMania card! Well done him. Second, the timekeeper for that show couldn't count, despite that being literally his only job.

On commentary, Gorilla Monsoon insisted that Bundy trounced Jones in 9 seconds, which was record time. Thanks to the magic of the WWE Network, I can personally verify that the match went at least 16 seconds.

Not that that’s any more impressive, really, but it seems strange to fudge a number that you have complete control over.

There were precisely four moves in the match: a bearhug, a corner ram, a corner splash, and a standing splash. If you're dead set on 9 seconds, you could cut literally any of those four maneuvers and been right there.

Did someone panic at the last minute and decide we needed to protect Special Delivery fargin’ Jones in a record-breakingly short squash? Because I'd buy S.D. Jones being rendered comatose by a hard stare.
