5 Booking Decisions WWE Would Be Crazy NOT To Make After Royal Rumble 2020

Like a self-inflicted Cobra to the throat, the Rumble came and went. All that remains is the future.

The Royal Rumble is something special when it comes to storytelling. The eponymous match itself offers matches within matches, allies turning on each other, and enemies grouping together against a common threat. Stories are set up and paid off in the Rumble to the point that even a bad one is worth watching with plenty of enjoyable spots.

While the highlight of the 2020 Royal Rumble was obviously that massive return (who could believe that Santina Morella would return to save the women's division?) there was plenty going on in both of the battle royales, as well as a few side stories being built in the matches between them, and even the media surrounding the event. Cain Velasquez announced to the news that he'd be in the Rumble and didn't appear. Heavy Machinery's Otis proved himself a stealthy little floor tile. Beth Phoenix, who commentates for NXT, had her head cracked open by Bianca Belair, and then eliminated the number one contender for the NXT championship herself.

With so much happening, WWE have plenty of stories to tell in the run-up to WrestleMania, but here's a few mad ones they'd be equally mad not to tell.

5. Let Them Fight

Viewed in hindsight, the booking of Brock Lesnar in the Rumble was genius. Yes, fear of the ring being turned into a sweat-filled swimming pool meant that Lesnar had to get most people out in three seconds flat. Yes, that diminished the returns of people like MVP and John Morrison. Yes, seeing Kofi denied his revenge was infuriating. But when Drew McIntyre finally toppled The Beast, those he'd trampled on the way became part of that storyline instead.

But Drew wasn't the first to give Brock pause. Keith Lee's entrance had fans on their feet chanting "Oh, bask in his glory", the announcers hyping The Limitless One up, and even Brock selling him as a big deal. And then Lee knocked Lesnar off his feet with a shoulder barge that hit Lesnar like nobody has been allowed to in years.

A double clothesline sent both down, setting Lee up to look an equal force to Vince's most special boy, and fans were seeing a taste of something special when... "BRAUN!" The roar announced the next entrant to the Rumble and we had three absolute monsters in the ring.

Fans only got a couple of minutes to see what these three could do to each other at the Rumble. It was a taster and boy did it taste good. We're all ready for the main course now. These three, last man standing, at Elimination Chamber for a true monster's ball.
