2. It's Been Done Before
The Women’s Championship of old was passed around frequently. Trish Stratus held the strap seven times during her time with the company, despite arriving at the WWF as nothing more than a manager/eye candy. Her feud with Lita, which saw the championship exchanged between them twice, has become iconic in the history of women’s wrestling.
Admittedly their feud continued over a larger amount of time with other storylines happening in the meantime. However, it’s clear that WWE management are pushing Charlotte and Sasha as the Lita and Trish of their generation and hope to one day establish their feud as equally iconic. Sasha is as charismatic a babyface as Lita was (plus both women are capable of fantastic heel work). Charlotte is as vindictive and devious as Trish was during the peak of her heel run.
The comparisons are there, and clearly WWE are seeing them. Charlotte may have won the belt and will hopefully move on to feud with other superstars such as Bayley, Nia Jax, and Emmalina, but there is every chance we may see another chapter in the feud, or at least Sasha Banks winning the gold yet again. Charlotte may well be chasing Trish’s record seven titles runs with the belt. If her impressive pay per view winning streak is anything to go by, WWE are setting her up for big things.
