5 Ups & 5 Downs From Last Night's WWE SmackDown (July 3)

2. What's The Point Anymore?

Asuka Carmella James Ellsworth

Last week, James Ellsworth was unbearable. His promo on Asuka was delivered terribly, and exposed him, once again, as a performer in well over his head. Paige's arrival set up last night's clash with 'The Empress,' giving WWE the opportunity to end the bulls*** between their former NXT Women's Champion and 'The Chin That Eats The Pin' before it spiralled out of control. Sadly, they didn't take it

This bout should've been over in a single move. Ellsworth would come down, act cocky, hide behind Carmella, then get booted in the face. Job done. Alas, Asuka struggled to land meaningful offence on her over-matched opponent, and instead of getting his backside handed to him, James fled, leading to a count-out, a chase, and 'Mella cutting Asuka off. The SmackDown Women's Champion once again got the upper-hand on a performer who once looked like a stone-cold killer, but is now as gullible a fool as anyone else on the babyface roster.

This feud stinks. WWE's lack of caste system and desperation to place every single performer on the exact same level has created an environment where special acts no longer exist. Everyone is a different shade of mediocrity, and for as long as Asuka is tied up in this nonsense, she'll be a million miles from recovery.
