5 Ups And 2 Downs From WCPW Loaded Episode 7
3. Up - I'd Also Like A Million Dollars
While I enjoyed last week's match between Grado and Martin Kirby, I made a point of noting that Kirby's skill and athleticism was being wasted in favor of his comedy skill. I wanted to see him in an actual match where he could show off his talent.
This week, I got my wish, as Kirby was in action against arguably the most talked-about man in British wrestling - "The Aerial Assassin" Will Ospreay. Ospreay has looked great for WCPW (and just about everywhere else) in the past, and though beating him would be a tall order, Kirby could really prove himself in the bout.
He did just that. The match was the longest and best of the show, with Ospreay showing the flying ability that's made him a worldwide star and Kirby hanging with him every step of the way. After superkicks, enzuigiris, flips, and more, Ospreay and Kirby went into a thrilling series of false finishes. Finally, Kirby scored the upset victory, pinning Ospreay with a backslide.
I wasn't expecting Kirby to pick up the win - I thought he'd put on a great show and raise his stock with a hard-fought loss. Still, it's fine that he won - a loss won't hurt Ospreay any, and Kirby will surely benefit.
