5 Ups And 3 Downs From Last Night's WWE SmackDown (Oct 8)

2. 'King' Barrett Still Sucks

Before the Englishman disappeared briefly from television, 'King' Barrett was hardly setting the world on fire. Incredibly, the 'King Of The Ring' win earlier in 2015 has been more like a noose around the man's neck. That's obviously not the way things should be, but the royal gimmick has been handled very poorly by those in charge of writing promos and angles. Throughout his run with the crown, Barrett has come across as little more than a jobber to the stars. That's a death position for any WWE star, and the man must have been hoping he'd be given more to work with upon his return. A feud with Neville would have been promising, if creative seemed interested in it. They're not however, which only makes it harder for fans to invest. Beating Neville on Smackdown, Barrett still failed to garner sufficient heat from those in attendance. The match was short, which did nothing for either man going forward. Perhaps the best thing WWE could do right now is just give up on the whole 'King' premise. It's been a miserable failure for Wade Barrett, who is as low as ever on the totem pole of importance.
