5 Wrestlers Who Could Be The Joker In AEW's Women's Casino Battle Royale

Mercedes Martinez filled the role in 2019; who follows in her footsteps?

Your personal taste will depend on how you view the annual Casino Battle Royale from All Elite Wrestling.

It wants to be a Royal Rumble so badly, but it can't simply follow the exact format of the January extravaganza because they'd be accused of directly copying something out of WWE; it's not like, you know, literally every other promotion does this.

Nonetheless, the match - typically held on a Double or Nothing or an All Out - is typically decent from an in-ring perspective. Take the men's match from May's Double or Nothing as an example; while the contrived timed arrivals of the four suites detracted from the match immensely, most notably during an exchange between Christian Cage and Matt Hardy, the sequence between Jungle Boy and Penta el Zero Miedo was as delicious as one would expect, with Jungle's match-winning swing around the ring post to eliminate Christian acting as a suitable finish.

The arrival of the Joker - Lio Rush - elicited a grandiose reaction from the deafening Daily's Place faithful. Though not a surprise many had anticipated, the 'Man Of The Hour' was very much that during this match. The social media buzz in the show's aftermath was real.

But who will be the Joker this time around?

5. Mickie James

The arrival of Mickie James at All Out would be a one-and-done deal, but there's a reason for it.

She's not going to bring any real substance to the current women's division. Perhaps Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D could get a win over her later on to enhance her credibility as the Women's World Champion. That's the extent of James' potential success in the Tony Khan-helmed promotion.

Instead, a surprise appearance in the Casino Battle Royale, one or two eliminations over lesser-built talents, and being ousted by a future top star - Jade Cargill, perhaps - would suit her better. It automatically raises the match's reputation for including such a legendary figure, but following the events of last weekend, there's never been a more perfect time to showcase Mickie James.

She executively produced NWA's Empowerrr pay-per-view, marking the first time of such an event in the history of that promotion. She deserves recognition for this in the years that follow; a quick AEW match is a way of achieving this. Ideally, the match would stop as her music played to give off the vibe that she's still a major deal in the business. Given the talent so far announced for the bout, there's great potential for Mickie in this match.
