6 Ups & 4 Downs From Last Night's NXT (Jan 15)

2. DI-Why?

Ciampa Gargano
NXT

I'm going to get into what an improbable success story the build to Worlds Collide has been later on but, while the ends might justify the means, said means are starting cause their own problems. Case in point, hastily cobbling together a promo segment and half-baked reformation of DIY, purely for a one-off match.

Both men are currently balls deep in the build to some of the biggest matches of their careers so far. Ciampa will take on Adam Cole for both the NXT Championship and, in all probability, a place on the WrestleMania card itself, while Johnny Gargano finally, finally, gets his match with Finn Bálor. TakeOver Portland feels like a monumental night for them... but this basically puts it all on hold.

While that's forgivable given the show is a month away, reforming DIY after everything that's gone on feels a little cheap. Yes, they're pals now and yes they've teamed together before, but if this was ever going to happen for a big show then it should really have had a big show narrative informing it. As with everything NXT though the match with Moustache Mountain will make it all worth it, but in the moment it underwhelmed in the extreme.
