6 Ups And 0 Downs For WWE NXT: New Year's Evil

Which WWE NXT stars kicked off the New Year with a bang?

Wasting little time delivering a must-see event in 2021, NXT set the ball rolling with an event which already seems like it could be a difficult prospect to top over the next 12 months.

New Year's Evil already had our attention with the announcement of a Last Woman Standing match between the titanic Raquel Gonzalez and Rhea Ripley, a juggernaut encounter between Karrion Kross and Damian Priest, and a rematch for the ages over the NXT Championship between Finn Balor and Kyle O'Reilly in the main event. Hell, it didn't even matter that the previously promoted Fight Pit war had been bumped off the card due to a Timothy Thatcher injury, fans were already buckled up for a ride. And it's a good thing too because last night's event refused to take the foot off the gas even for a minute.

Keeping the divisive Dexter Lumis schtick and slapstick silliness to a minimum, NXT delivered a diverse showcase of just about every positive element the brand possesses; from easy on the eye Lucha Libre to wince-inducing backstage wars. Legacies were cemented, stars continued to rise, and chapters appeared to come to an end on a night of drama, suspense and above all else, bloody great wrestling.

2020 may not have been the year any of us were hoping for. But if NXT keeps this sort of form up going forward, 2021 may just deliver us the grandest black and gold period yet.
