6 Ups And 4 Downs From Last Night's WWE NXT (April 30th)

1. Owens vs Zayn Continues To Be The Best Feud In WWE Right Now

While there may have been a twenty minute delay before the wrestling started this week, it gave the fans an exceptional promo between Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens. The Champ came out and challenged Sami Zayn to a fight right then and there. William Regal emerged, responding that Kevin Owens would not be permitted to run NXT for his own agenda. Sami Zayn joined them and a match was announced between the two men at NXT. While Owens initially refused to put the title on the line, Zayn goaded him into it by tapping into his fears that throughout everything that he'd ever done in his career, he has always been living in Sami's shadow. The promo was electric, helped no end by the crowd eating up every word. Every time Zayn needled Owens about feeling inferior to him the crowd reacted like they witness the 'sickest burn' imaginable, at one point shouting 'You Got Told, You Got Told'. Satisfying from a story perspective, Zayn's promo featured many lines previously used by Owens in their feud, such as 'I fight for a prize'. This gives the story more cohesion. Owens responded to Zayn's taunts later in the show, by finishing the job than Sami interrupted last week, giving Alex Riley a horrific-looking powerbomb to the ring apron. Built on genuine history between the two competitors and a solid escalation of tension and violence, NXT are currently taking the WWE to school on how to build a big championship feud. Roll over, May 20th.
