6 Ups And 8 Downs From WWE Elimination Chamber 2017
3. Mute Otunga
This column constantly gives Byron Saxton grief for his lackluster announcing, but David Otunga might be worse.
Sunday, Otunga immediately showed how not-ready-for-primetime he was during the first match when he noted that Mickie James hadn’t been in WWE for seven years, so she must have a lot of ring-rust on her. He would repeat that claim multiple times during the match.
Let’s quickly unpack that: WWE has been openly acknowledging that wrestlers come to the company from other promotions and have achieved success all over the world. They might not reference the company by name (such as TNA), but they definitely will note that wrestlers have experience.
That’s what made Otunga’s repeated insistence that Mickie James was rusty such a moronic statement. It was so bad that the third time he said it, JBL jumped in and shut him down, noting that Mickie had been competing all over the world the past seven years, just not in WWE.
Stick to bodybuilding, David.
