6 Ups And 9 Downs From Last Night's WWE Raw (Feb 18)

4. Graves Shuts Down Nonsense

If you watch Raw with the sound on, you’ve no doubt heard some of Michael Cole’s idiotic idioms, such as “building momentum,” “creating separation” or “vintage [INSERT NAME].”

We got another one Monday night, but Corey Graves actually had the perfect rejoinder.

During the Lucha House Party versus Zack Ryder & Curt Hawkins match, Cole noted that the luchadores “love to have fun,” to which Graves replied, “Is there anyone on Earth who does not love to have fun?” It shut things down, with Renee Young and even Cole agreeing and being a bit dumbfounded.

The “loves to have fun” comment is one of Cole’s most overused phrases, something he says about a wrestler who isn’t a serious threat most of the time and is just there to entertain rather than win, such as No Way Jose. It’s a borderline insult.

And that’s why Graves’ putdown was so perfect. If only that would lead to Cole retiring the phrase, but we’ll probably get it 87 times between now and WrestleMania.
