7 Incredibly Heated UFC Press Conferences
1. UFC 229 Press Conference
If you expected vitriol, personal insults, and trash-talking to be amplified tenfold, then the presser promoting Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov's Lightweight clash provided just that.
It was a long time coming between these two superstar fighters. As a bit of a primer, the chain of reaction began with Khabib physically confronting Conor's teammate Artem Lobov. Following media processes in New York promoting Khabib's UFC 223 fight with Al Iaquinta, as well as his thoughts on the Irish megastar, Conor attacked the media bus that Khabib and other fighters were using for travel. Conor was subsequently arrested and charged, but later had the charges dropped.
Once the two were finally locked in to fight, Conor and Khabib wasted no time in making their animosity for each other known. Conor blamed the result of the bus attack on Khabib, and demanded that he do something about it. Khabib pondered why Conor didn't send him any sort of message about fighting outside of the event, with Conor immediately brushing off Khabib's inquiry by calling him a lying rat.
Things only got more intense, as Conor implied that Khabib will face repercussions back in Russia if he pulled out of the fight. When Khabib asked him what was going to happen, a noticeably-intoxicated Conor rebuffed him. He then asked Khabib if he was disrespecting Russian President Vladimir Putin by not wanting to take a photo with him when he had the chance, and further questioned the heart of Khabib by implying that those in Dagestan had glass jaws.
While Khabib mostly showed constraint, it was clear that he was no fan of Conor's antics in the presser. Their fight resulted in a decisive victory for Khabib, but their hostility continues to this day, and may never end if the Lightweight champion has anything to say about it.
