7 Matches Where John Cena Went FULL WORKRATE
3. 25 February 2013 Raw (vs. CM Punk)
Money In The Bank 2011 will forever be regarded as one of WWE's finest hours. CM Punk beat John Cena in the main event to "steal" the top title and hold it hostage, which put a brilliant bow on his 'Summer Of Punk'/'Pipebomb' run that year. Yes, MITB 2011 was magic, but it's not the match being analysed on this occasion. That award goes to events on the 25 February 2013 Raw.
WWE billed this as a true blowoff to the Punk vs. Cena rivalry, but there was also a WrestleMania 29 title shot vs. The Rock waiting for the winner. Those stakes had fans in Dallas glued to the ring. Spare a thought for anybody who was bursting for the loo or fancied grabbing a drink/snack here, because they missed at least a few minutes of one of the best WWE TV matches ever.
Cena bust out a fisherman's suplex, he hit a killer guillotine leg drop from the top, and there was even a bloody piledriver for good measure. That move was lesser spotted back then (Side note: Isn't it strange that piledrivers are quasi-taboo but Canadian Destroyers aren't?!), so it grabbed attention from all comers. So, mind you, did John using an f'n hurricanrana.
Rey Mysterio, eat your heart out.
That fed into an Attitude Adjustment for the win, and Cena was heading to 'Mania for another match with Rocky. "Once In A Lifetime" could suck it. This match was fire. Michael Cole was on top of his game behind the desk on comms, Cena was inspired, Punk had a chip on his shoulder (that's when some of his finest work happens!), and everything came together neatly.
Watch this if you've never had the pleasure.
