7 Ups & 4 Downs From WWE Raw (15 May - Review)
2. Don’t Live Down To The Gimmick
There’s no hotter heel on Raw right now than Dominik Mysterio. (Yes, that’s an actual sentence we never thought would be written, but it’s also one that can be verified.)
Dominik’s entire gimmick as a heat magnet is that he’s the ungrateful, undeserving, underachieving son of Rey Mysterio who manages to succeed in spite of himself. He relies on the rest of the Judgment Day to bail him out, as he is ill-equipped to defend himself or win his own fights.
This is backed up in reality because Dom is… well, not that great in the ring. He’s not bad, but he’s not exactly going to carry on the Mysterio legacy in the same way as Rey. But that doesn’t mean that he should be lackluster in the ring.
Monday, Mysterio battled Xavier Woods in a rematch from last week, where Rhea Ripley pulled Dom out of the ring to save and help him win. This time, Woods anticipated the save, but he still fell victim to a Ripley blindside.
She tossed Xavier back into the ring, where Dominik proceeded to do the worst rollup in history to get the win. It wasn’t even a rollup – there was no leverage, no weight across the shoulders, nothing. Woods had to lay there and flail and pretend that Mysterio’s bootlaces were magically holding him down for the 3 count.
That rollup shouldn’t negate the huge heel heat Dom earned on Raw, but when you botch the finish that badly, it’s going to get negative marks..
