7 Ways WWE Can Book Free Agent John Cena

5. Revenge For The Miz

The Miz hasn’t been the same since WrestleMania 33, and while this is mostly down to the way he has been booked following his jump to Raw, it doesn’t help that he was treated like an afterthought on the year’s biggest show. His and Maryse’s mixed tag match with Cena and Nikki Bella served only to set-up John’s post-match promo, and while the preceding feud was tremendous, the outcome left Miz momentum-less.

Assuming Miz concludes his business with Dean Ambrose before long, making Cena a free agent would theoretically allow him to give ‘The A-Lister’ his win back. There was no need to use Miz as a doormat for a marriage proposal at ‘Mania, but that could all be undone with a big performance against Cena, and he’d from even a tainted victory.

The motivations are simple: the duo already hate each other, and John has never been Intercontinental Champion. If Miz survives Ambrose, this gives Cena a clear reason to go after his former adversary as he chases Grand Slam Champion status. Given the way WWE booking usually goes, it’s unlikely that they’d let Miz triumph over John in such a scenario, but it’d be a fun angle.
