7 Wrestlers Shawn Michaels Refused To Lose Against

3. Vader

This is a well-documented case in the many examples of 'Shawn Michaels Being A Chump', but lets go over it one more time. Despite the tide turning WCW's way in the mid 1990s, Vader made the move over to the World Wrestling Federation nonetheless. He was a monster, a genuine monster, and after running through all and sundry was all set to win the WWF Championship from Michaels.

The only problem was that Michaels had all the professionalism of a sleep-deprived toddler awoken from an all-too-brief nap, and HBK decided that the pram was no longer the right place for all of his toys. You see, ol' Vader worked a little too snuggly (as in tight, not cuddly) for Shawn, and one hissy fit later Vader was pretty much done as WWF Championship material.

The poster for SummerSlam 1996 stated that 'Opposites Attack', and that is pretty much what this match was. Vader was a big rough dude, the sort of guy you wouldn't want to have to disagree with let alone fight. Michaels? He was a member of a boy band.

An influential boy band though, and HBK go this way. Michaels won, Vader lost, Michaels continued on top of the company, Vader moved down the card.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
