In 2010, The Nexus were the hottest thing going in professional wrestling. They had made their debut in the summer, taking RAW hostage somewhat and destroying opponents in the process. They attacked the biggest names in the company, and were well on the way to establishing themselves as the future of the business.

Wade Barrett was the leader, and he was a man that seemed to have everything WWE wants. Barrett had the size, the look, the technical ability, the promos, the voice, everything. Wade Barrett was for sure a main event talent waiting to happen.

Then, John Cena happened, but John Cena happened in the worst possible way. The main event of SummerSlam saw Team Cena take on The Nexus, and it all boiled down to Cena going up against Wade Barrett and Justin Gabriel, and all seemed lost after a DDT onto the concrete floor.

Well, no, not really. Cena kicked out, Super Cena'd up and defeated the two of them, quick sharp. The Nexus began to implode, and Wade Barrett was forever tainted. The Englishman never recovered from the Nexus mistakes, and found himself released in 2016.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
