Bettering the non-title match they shared at SummerSlam four months earlier seemed like a near-impossible task for John Cena and AJ Styles going into the Royal Rumble earlier this year, but the introduction of the WWE Championship - won by the Phenomenal One in the intervening period - helped elevate their rivalry to a whole new level.

It was the flurry of finishing moves, the agonising near-falls, that made this match such a gripping one. You just couldn't take your eyes off the ring as both men - two wrestlers who defined their respective companies in the previous decade - desperately searched for an opening to put their opponent away for good.

In the end, Cena - the loser of the first match - leveled things up after hitting his opponent with a pair of Attitude Adjustments. Normally, that kind of finish would provoke some ire from the crowd, but on this occasion nobody could complain.
