8 Desperately Weird Vince McMahon Promotional Tactics

7. Killing Himself

On June 11th, 2007, Vince McMahon died. Or at least appeared to.

The boss was having a rough going it in the summer of 07, so a Vince McMahon Appreciation Night was hosted on Raw in an attempt to lift his spirits. It didn’t seem to work. It actually had the opposite effect. Various videos from friends and foes alike were aired, with very few people seeming to appreciate him one bit.

A forlorn Vince ended the night walking out to the parking lot. It seemed that something was up, as quite a bit of TV time was devoted to him leaving the building. As he reached his limo, he took one last look off into the distance, perhaps realizing his mortality was at its end. Then he slammed the door, and the limo f***ing exploded!

Who was the culprit? Well, over the next few weeks or months we would find out. It would be a summer murder mystery for the ages! Except it lasted all of two weeks. The night his “funeral” was scheduled to air, the world found out about the Chris Benoit murderers and suicide. It would have been in incredibly poor taste to continue with the fake death angle, so Vince showed up on TV looking no worse for wear.

We’ll never know who attempted to kill the boss, or how he managed to escape or how he thought treating his death as an actual event was a good business decision.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
