8 Intriguing Implications Of Brock Lesnar At UFC 200
3. The Endgame Is Still Up In The Air
Obviously we don’t know the ins and outs of the build-up to this announcement yet. Did the UFC approach the WWE and request that Lesnar fill out the rumoured one fight left on his old UFC contract? Did Lesnar contact Vince McMahon and ask for the opportunity that WWE.com claims was gifted to him, to get a sense of closure on an MMA career that didn’t end as he’d wanted it to?
Did Vince McMahon come up with the idea and conspire with Brock Lesnar to approach the UFC together, to cross-promote WWE and SummerSlam on the biggest MMA event in history?
If, as is clearly being implied by both WWE and Lesnar himself, this was driven by Brock Lesnar’s drive to properly prove himself on a stage he considers he fell from, then will that frustrated ambition be satisfied with a win over Mark Hunt is on July 9th?
If it isn’t, then what’s next for him? The same circumstances that set up this bizarre appearance at UFC200 will still exist after the show goes off the air. He’ll still feel that nagging sense of having missed out that he talks about in interviews… only now there’ll be a precedent for requesting leave to shoehorn himself onto a UFC card all over again.
Will the biggest draw in MMA history get to step in for a payday any time he, WWE and Zuffa can come to an arrangement? And if this happens often enough - if he has the same impact on the sport that he did back in 2008 - then does he get to fight for the heavyweight title?
Could we one day see Brock Lesnar walk to the ring at WrestleMania with the UFC Heavyweight Championship and the the WWE World Heavyweight Championship?
