8 Times Fighters Won When They Should Have Been DQ'd

6. Bryan Caraway Gets A Little Handsy Trying To Secure A Choke

Of all the fouls chronicled on this list, none were quite as rare as that committed by former UFC bantamweight contender Bryan Caraway in his fight with Erik Perez back in 2014.

After a stint on Team Mayhem on Season 14 of The Ultimate Fighter, Caraway became known for his wrestling and submission grappling skills, ultimately reaching the semi-finals of the competition.

Caraway's ability to finish opponents once he reaches their back is incredible. Of his 18 professional wins leading up to the fight with Perez, 15 of them were by way of submission, with ten by rear-naked choke alone.

Needless to say, Caraway was a talented and crafty fighter, especially when the bout hit the mat.

However, during the first round of his fight with Perez, he committed a foul rarely seen in combat sports: the fish hook.

After securing a dominant position, Caraway attempted to take Perez's back by sinking his finger into the mouth of his opponent as they scrambled for position.

The illegal technique would go completely undetected by the referee, and Caraway would go on to secure his patented rear-naked choke in the second round to earn one of the biggest wins of his career.

Despite the controversy, both fighters remarked after the fight that they were unaware that the incident had taken place during the fight, and Caraway went on to issue Perez a public apology.
