8 Times WWE Tried (And Failed) To Make The Roman Reigns Experiment Work
1. Roman The Anti-Establishment Badass
In one final attempt to get Roman over, the creative team have tried to capitalise on viewers' frustrations with Brock Lesnar's part-time championship reign. Thus, in the past six months, Reigns has become a vessel through which he speaks the concerns of the WWE Universe. Though it has featured some of the Big Dog's best mic work to date, it's clearly a not-so-subtle way of trying to turn him into the people's champion.
However, the one major problem with this new approach is the recycled monologues in which Reigns moans about how he is continually robbed and underappreciated by the WWE establishment. In the past three years, Reigns has been handed victory after victory, championship after championship and even main-evented four consecutive WrestleManias, so nobody buys him as an underdog fighting against the establishment — simply because that establishment continues to reward him, against the WWE Universe's wishes.
Roman Reigns is and always has been a product of that establishment and no amount of surprisingly entertaining promos or heinous beat-downs are ever going to change that. However, will this latest attempt to make Roman relatable see him become Universal Champion, or will we just sit back now and prepare ourselves for the next one?
