8 UFC Records That Will Be Broken (And 8 That Won't)
15. WILL - Most Title Defences
Record: Demetrious Johnson - 11
Next Best: TIED - Anderson Silva and Jon Jones - 10
Demetrious Johnson's dominant reign as Flyweight Champion might be one of the most underrated in UFC history.
Winning a short tournament to crown the first ever champion of the new division at UFC 152, Mighty Mouse went on to absolutely dominate for almost six years.
As the face of a new division, Johnson fought frequently to try and lift himself and his fellow flyweights as a respectable part of the company. Because of this, he may not have had the longest reign (although he did get close), but he did have the most title defences.
The diminutive American racked up 11 defences in just one reign, almost forcing Dana White into retiring the division because he'd simply run through everyone available, leaving no real fights to book for the belt.
It would take a reinvigorated Henry Cejudo to finally knock Johnson off his perch at UFC 227. Johnson then wouldn't even get a chance to reclaim the belt and add to his tally of defences, being traded to ONE Championship after losing the belt.
While Anderson Silva was the first to reach ten successful title defences, it's of course Jon Jones who is on the cusp of adding another record to his resume.
Jones is also tied with Silva on ten and, even if he loses his next defence to Dominick Reyes, is still just 32-years-old, so has plenty of time to reclaim and move past Johnson.
