8 Ways WWE Is Catering To The Hardcore Fans Right Now

1. Kevin Owens Is The Top Champion In The Company

I have to be honest; just writing that out is pretty surreal. Even more than AJ Styles, Kevin Owens is a guy who seemed destined to never have a run with WWE. If you were to make a list of everything Vince McMahon loves in a wrestler, he ticks off very few of the boxes, and yet here we are.

His win, more than anything else on this list, signifies that we may be truly be in the midst of a new era for WWE.

It's actually a shame that Owens is such a god-level heel because everything about his career and life story makes him the ultimate blue collar babyface, much like another man who wound up being the biggest star in the history of the business. KO has an Austin-esque aura of not giving a single f*ck and the people love him for it.

He does all the little things perfectly, such as the way he needled Reigns and Rollins during their four-man confrontation at the opening of Raw, his banter with the crowd during his matches and his in-ring facial expressions. He's got wrestling down to a science and absolutely deserves the position he's been thrust in; something the Raw crowd was quick to inform him of despite the fact that he was the villain of the match.

If WWE is willing to put the belt on Owens when the safe option of Seth Rollins, the company favourite Roman Reigns and the new upstart Vince prototype Big Cass were all viable options, it symbolises a fundamental change in thinking going forward.

At least we can hope it does.
